# Moyes confirms Jarrad Branthwaite boost ahead of Newcastle v Everton

**David Moyes expects Jarrad Branthwaite to return for [Everton](https://readeverton.com/) when they face Newcastle United for the second time in five days on Monday night.**

The England defender has missed the past two matches while following concussion protocols, but should be available for the Premier League trip to St James’ Park.

## Branthwaite set for Everton return

Speaking in his [pre-match press conference](https://www.evertonfc.com/news/2026/october/30/branthwaite-fitness-update-ahead-of-second-newcastle-clash/), Moyes said: “Jarrad should have recovered from his concussion and also the timescale which we had to abide by.”

Branthwaite sat out the defeat at Arsenal and Thursday’s 3-1 Carabao Cup win over Newcastle, with Jake O’Brien partnering James Tarkowski in central defence.

There was further encouraging news for [Everton](https://readeverton.com/) when Moyes was asked whether his side had come through the cup tie without any fresh injury problems.

“I think so,” he said, although the Everton boss added that the players would need to be assessed following the game before their condition for Monday became completely clear.

One selection question remains over Jack Grealish. The winger was unavailable on Thursday because of a breach of club discipline. Moyes backed that decision after the game but gave little away when asked whether Grealish could return at St James’ Park, replying: “I’d never give any team news away.”

Everton will at least travel north with renewed confidence after James Garner, Hayden Hackney and Thierno Barry scored in Thursday’s cup victory. Moyes expects the rematch to present a different challenge.

“It’s a different ball game going to St James’ Park on a Monday evening,” he said. “They’ve got a great crowd up there so you always know you’re up against it. But we go up there with confidence. We have played Newcastle a couple of times this year and done really well.”

Branthwaite’s expected return gives Moyes another important option as Everton look to carry their cup form back into the Premier League.
