# Jermaine Jenas Issues Mixed Verdict on Everton Star’s Form

Pundit Jermaine Jenas told [Match of the Day Live on BBC One](https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m000x2yn/euro-2020-england-v-croatia) that whilst he feels that the England goalkeeper has developed as a player, ‘question marks’ still remain over his Everton form.

The Toffees no. 1 kept a clean sheet against Croatia in the Three Lions’ opener, aiding Gareth Southgate’s side in a 1-0 victory.

England’s control of the tempo of the game ensured that the goalkeeper was only sporadically called into action but found a spell of intensity towards the end of the game.

An assured and composed flurry of action proved essential in buoying England to all three points in their first-ever opening day win in the Euros.

Jenas was complimentary of Pickford’s performance for his country, but questioned his club form \[via [HITC](https://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2021/06/13/i-think-bbc-pundit-makes-interesting-pickford-claim-minutes-before-england-win-today/)\]:

> “He’s added some calm there to proceedings,” said Jenas. “I think in an England shirt he has (on Pickford growing up), definitely.

> “I think that Gareth Southgate trusts him. There are question marks over him on a weekly basis and whether he should be England’s number one.

> “But, in an England shirt, he seems to be able to deliver and carry that number one jersey, which has been tough for a number of goalkeepers over the years.”

Pickford has been firmly locked down as England’s no. 1 for some times, especially after his [2018 World Cup heroics.](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-5929301/Jordan-Pickford-soaks-praise-man-match-display-World-Cup-win-Sweden.html)

In an England shirt, Pickford has scarcely put a foot wrong and produced a cascading trickle of memorable moments.

However, his [upturn in form for Everton](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/jordan-pickford-everton-gareth-southgate-20675996)since the latter portion of last season is a more subtle trend.

Southgate himself admitted he is ‘really pleased’ by Pickford’s displays in an indication of his trust in the Toffees ace.

Fans will be hoping his more recent form can find some consistency ahead of the next campaign.
