# Jonas Lossl Leaves Everton for Denmark Return

[Everton](https://readeverton.com/2021/01/19/everton-fans-transfer-discussion-patrick-boyland-twitter/) goalkeeper Jonas Lossl has [returned to Danish football](https://www.evertonfc.com/news/2002232/lossl-leaves-everton), leaving Goodison Park to join FC Midtjylland in a permanent deal.

The ex-Huddersfield goalkeeper joined the Toffees on a free transfer from the Yorkshire side in [July 2019](https://www.evertonfc.com/news/2002232/lossl-leaves-everton), providing cover for Jordan Pickford.

He spent the second half of last season on loan with his former club, going on to make 15 appearances in the Championship.

The 32-year-old started his career at the Danish Superliga side, making his first senior appearance for FC Midtjylland in March 2010 before joining French side EA Guingamp four years later.

Lossl had been [previously linked](https://readeverton.com/2020/12/31/readeverton-com-2020-12-31-jonas-lossl-linked-with-january-everton-exit/)to MLS side Inter Miami in a move that would have seen Lossl link up with ex-Toffee Phil Neville, who manages the side part-owned by David Beckham.

The Danish goalkeeper, capped once for his country, is understood by the [Liverpool Echo](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/everton-jonas-lossl-transfer-breaking-19741162)to have pushed for an exit this month as opposed to a summer departure from Merseyside.

He leaves Everton having never made a competitive appearance for the club and found himself down in the pecking order following the arrival of AS Roma goalkeeper Robin Olsen on loan.

With 18 months left on his Everton deal, Lossl looks to have seen a fee commanded by Everton for his services.

[OneFootball](https://onefootball.com/en/news/deadline-day-live-liverpool-defender-blow-pl-clubs-wants-amn-32289592) have claimed the fee was €3.2 million.

Lossl was never a serious contender under Carlo Ancelotti, especially following Olsen’s arrival.

The fellow Scandinavian, who has been [rotated in for Jordan Pickford](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/robin-olsen/profil/spieler/75458) on occasions, looks to be the real backup to Pickford.

Confined as a mere emergency option, a move that commanded a fee is sensible for all parties.
