# Kean dropped for Italy qualifier – why he desperately needs to score

Moise Kean is expected to return to the Italy national set-up for their second upcoming Euro 2020 qualifier against Liechtenstein.

The 19-year old was dropped down to the Under-21s alongside Roma starlet Nicolo Zaniolo during the last international break after the duo were deemed unprofessional by manager Roberto Mancini, having turned up to a team meeting late.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport ([via Calciomercato](https://www.calciomercato.com/en/news/italy-mancini-to-recall-zaniolo-but-not-kean-or-balotelli-58785)), Zaniolo is now expected to be re-called to the senior set-up for both games, while Kean will miss Italy’s first qualifier against Greece to be called in for Kevin Lasagna against Liechtenstein.

Unfortunately for Kean, it is clear to see why he will miss out against Greece, and that will ultimately boil down to his goalscoring record on Merseyside.

The former Juventus man has yet to get off the mark for Everton, and this struggle will always make other strikers more appealing to Mancini who wants to give his side the best chance to qualify, having missed out on the World Cup last year.

Kean needs a burst of confidence to get going, and it is tough to see him keep working for no reward. Marco Silva could be best suited playing both Kean and Calvert-Lewin from the off on Saturday, to both experiment with the line-up and give both players the chance to get on target.
