# Knee-Jerk Reactions and Moving On

I think we’re all over last week by now. No? Well, you’ll get there.

We’ve had worse weeks, some in recent, disgustingly vivid memories. Lest we forget the meltdown at Anfield and Wembley, in the space of a few days that all but sealed Bobby’s fate as our boss. We came out the better for it, didn’t we?

It stung, horribly, that week. Especially considering that was the big chance, Wembley especially. Squeeze past a far-from-perfect United and then ease past one of either Watford or Palace to bring the cup back after 20 grueling years, and to bring it back for Kendall. That would have been beautifully fitting, but alas, Everton were never the team to support if we all wanted a script-worthy club. We wouldn’t have it any other way, mind you.

On to the matter at hand, anyway.

So, Norwich was underwhelming. Here we all were, bouncing up to Goodison to watch Koeman’s silky Blues ease past Alex Neil’s band of freshly-relegated Canaries. Obviously, as per Everton customs, we were dispatched by an old favourite’s goal and an absolute rifle from Josh Murphy. Everton that.

Well, it would have been, if we were still the Everton of old. We aren’t really *that* Everton anymore. We were (ARE, let’s be sensible. See the title.) an efficient, uncompromising unit. We aren’t the ‘bottle it with absolute certainty’ Everton or the ”settle for 1-0 losses ’cause then the goal difference will still be up and that’s boss” Everton. We’re the ‘smash them in one half and send a few defenders to the Job Centre’ Everton. So, that’s what really came as a shock as that Tuesday night seemed to play out like Martinez was back in the dugout and Dennis Lawrence back doing his five yard passes with Koné.

We all went home a bit deflated, wondering if it really was the bubble bursting. (Well, those of us who *love* the post-match fume. Get’s a bit out the system, doesn’t it?)

Anyway, we go again. Upward and onward, Bournemouth.

Tuesday night was the reality check, Koeman’s got it all sorted. The System will change, the team will change and we’ll go out and pump them. Again, not script-worthy and all that. We lost in an embarrassing fashion to an extremely weak Bournemouth team due to long-forgotten lax defending which let Stanislas (Our bloody scourge the way things have been playing out since Bournemouth joined us up here) fire one home from 20 yards. Aside: all those saying Stek should have done better just pack it in.

And we slumped to a defeat. A spineless defeat.

The usual suspects didn’t show up, and the squad depth (Or lack thereof) was exposed in some elaboration. (Love Oviedo, really do, but we just can’t anymore.)

So, that’s that.

Now. We’re 5th (Joint 3rd really but alright).

These periods are where Koeman’s expertise is so crucially needed. Martinez would stick with the same system until things changed. That’s why he’s not at Everton, anymore. We should trust in Koeman to get over that little blip, ’cause at the end of the day, that’s what it is. It’s not some full blown crisis, far from it. Is everyone suffering from the loss of their memories of last season? *That* was a crisis.

We’ve won six games, lost two and drawn one. We’re fine. We were never winning every game this season, although the majority of us probably forgot what losing was like, didn’t we? We were riding on a dream, and now we tone it back to reality and focus on the task ahead.

Palace on Friday, get back on track, Blues.
