# Leeds and Napoli Join Everton in Race for Lucas Vasquez

[Everton’s](https://readeverton.com/2021/03/03/everton-could-miss-four-key-players-for-west-brom-trip/)previous interest in [out-of-contract](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/lucas-vazquez/profil/spieler/221316) Real Madrid winger Lucas Vasquez could be shaken by fresh interest from Napoli and Leeds.

Vasquez, who [can also play](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/lucas-vazquez/profil/spieler/221316) at right-back, looks increasingly set to exit the Spanish capital after rejecting his club’s latest contract offer, as per Spanish journalist [Pipe Sierra.](https://twitter.com/PipeSierraR/status/1366447627190026247)

Furthermore, Sierra indicates that the ‘most possible thing is that he leaves’ the *Merengues* before caveating that claim with news that Napoli and Leeds are among the clubs interested.

Two unnamed clubs are also reported by Sierra as having contacted the player’s entourage to sound out a move, with the possibility that Everton could be one of those clubs remaining on the table.

Everton were [previously linked](https://princerupertstower.com/2021/03/03/everton-target-lucas-vazquez-rejects-ultimate-renewal-offer-real-madrid-napoli-initiate-contact/) with the right-sided utility player, with no indications that their interest has faltered.

[Le10Sport](https://le10sport.com/football/mercato/mercato-real-madrid-pour-ce-protege-de-zidane-cest-termine-539672) had also corroborated Sierra’s claims in previous reports of a contract rejection, citing disagreements over wages as a decisive factor in new terms with Madrid failing to materialise.

That means Everton could be set to incur a high cost for the experienced attacker in terms of wages on the books in lieu of a summer transfer fee.

With Yannick Bolasie and Theo Walcott out of contract and Bernard nearly being successfully offloaded in January, reinforcing the flanks could be a priority area to watch out for in the summer.

However, an ageing asset on what would almost undoubtedly be high wages could incur future budgetary penalties.

As always, it is a question of risk versus reward for Everton for the versatile 9-cap Spain international Vasquez.
