# Martina could still leave this month – will the defender depart Goodison?

Cuco Martina is not part of Marco Silva’s first-team plans for Everton, and the defender could still leave the club before the end of the transfer window.

The 29-year old spent last season on loan with two different clubs, joining Stoke City in the Championship until January where he moved to Dutch Eredivisie side Feyenoord.

The right-back, who has also played left-back for the Blues, is now far down the pecking order in both positions. Everton have Seamus Coleman and new signing Djibril Sidibe on the right, while Lucas Digne and Leighton Baines occupy the left-back spots.

Despite having become one of Everton’s forgotten men, Martina could still depart before the window closes with his path to first-team football at Goodison Park blocked.

### Read Everton Verdict

When Ronald Koeman brought Cuco Martina to Everton with him from Southampton, it always looked like a deal that was destined to fail. The Curacao international didn’t pull up trees for Saints, so he was always unlikely to excel on Merseyside.

Unfortunately, fans were right to anticipate the worst, and as nice as the guy may be, he simply wasn’t good enough for the club. It’s hugely positive that we’re now in a position where player’s of his ability are far from the first-team, and hopefully for the benefit of all parties we can find a swift resolution.
