# Martinez could hand debut to Mori

Everton boss Roberto Martinez could hand Ramiro Funes Mori his debut against Chelsea on Saturday.

The Blues are waiting on the fitness of Brendan Galloway and Bryan Oviedo, who will undergo fitness tests ahead of Saturday’s early kick-off.

The Blues are hopeful that Galloway will be fit enough to play after picking up a knee injury, but Martinez is less optimistic about the fitness of Oveido.

The Costa Rican was forced to withdraw from international duty with Costa Rica after injuring his knee during Everton’s draw with Tottenham.

Martinez insisted he has no worries if Mori starts his first Premier League game against the defending champions.

Speaking to the [Liverpool Echo](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/martinez-give-mori-debut-galloway-10018579), Martinez said: “Bryan is still recovering well but we don’t know how long it will be for him. Not to be able to join the international set-up tells you how much of a worry that is for Bryan because he loves representing his country.

“He (Mori) has played in that position before, the only thing we need to assess is how he comes back.”

Mori became Everton’s fifth most expensive ever signing after completing his £9.5 million move from River Plate on deadline day.

The Argentine was in the squad as his country faced Bolivia and Mexico, and while the 24-year-old didn’t feature against Mexico he did earn his second international cap against Bolivia.

Roberto Martinez is excited about the arrival of Mori on Merseyside:

“Ramiro has been really exciting to have around but then we lost him to international duty,” added Martinez.

“It was great to see him play 90 minutes against Bolivia and great to see him not play against Mexico because it would have been too much.

Irish midfielder Darron Gibson has returned to training after troubles both on and off the pitch.
