# Milan director Marotta confirms Everton target Barbosa set for exit

Inter Milan director Beppe Marotta has admitted that Everton target Gabriel Barbosa has no future at the San Siro.

Yesterday we reported on the story that claimed that Flamengo had opened negotiations with Inter concerning Barbosa, who is currently on loan with the Brazilian side, over a permanent transfer.

The 23-year old striker has been in electric form for the Brazilian side, but he has struggled to make an impact in Europe, leading to Inter’s decision to led the forward go.

Everton were interested in Barbosa, commonly known as Gabigol, last summer, and recent reports have claimed that the Toffees have reignited their interest with their current crop of forwards having failed for consistency on Merseyside.

Newcastle are also said to be keen on the forward, as they look to increase their attacking options too.

Speaking to Sky Sports Italia ([via HITC](https://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2019/11/28/inter-chief-gives-everton-and-newcastle-a-big-boost-in-reported/)), Marotta admitted that Barbosa was likely to leave the Nerazzurri on a permanent basis on the near future, saying:

> We see Gabigol the same way as Lautaro \[Martinez\], a player who is growing year by year. His loan ends in December, after which we’ll carefully evaluate what to do with him.
>
> It’s unlikely he’ll be part of our project, but he has several proposals and we’ll evaluate it all carefully along with the player.

### Read Everton Verdict

While Barbosa could turn out to be quite a player, I still find myself drawn to his disheartening record in Europe.

Given Everton’s dreadful run as of late, the club need proven performers, not players who would ultimately be gambles that the club would be forced to hang their hopes on.

Barbosa’s successes in Brazil could easily fail to replicate themselves away from South America, and Everton need to be more assured and confident in signing any January recruits.
