# Noel Whelan Backs Heavy Everton Spending Under Rafa Benitez

[Everton](https://readeverton.com/2021/06/29/guillem-balague-wants-further-action-over-everton-banner/) fans will be treated to another window of generous squad investment from Farhad Moshiri, in the view of Noel Whelan.

With the club [on the verge](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-9726691/Everton-finalise-appointment-Rafa-Benitez-manager-week.html) of announcing Rafa Benitez as the club’s new manager, the ex-Leeds, Middlesbrough and Aberdeen hitman has backed a war chest to be handed to Benitez.

Boasting experience with some of Europe’s top clubs, including Chelsea, Real Madrid and Napoli, Benitez looks likely to be in the Goodison Park dugout with only the final touches left to iron out in his contract.

Everton has come under scrutiny in recent days following [derogatory and abusive messages](https://readeverton.com/2021/06/29/guillem-balague-wants-further-action-over-everton-banner/)being strewn on banners near Benitez’ Merseyside family home, with many fans disgruntled at the prospective appointment.

Despite having left arch-rivals Liverpool over ten years ago, his association continues to live strongly in the minds of Merseysiders.

Benitez famously lifted the 2005 Champions League with the Reds – though Whelan has urged the fans to look past his Liverpool links and insisted Benitez is a ‘world-class’ manager.

Speaking to [Football Insider,](https://www.footballinsider247.com/everton-will-spend-big-this-summer-as-deal-for-world-class-operator-is-done-whelan/) Whelan also backed Benitez to be at the helm for a period of significant investment in the squad:

> “Everton can give Benitez something that he has not had in a long time and that is a big transfer budget,” claimed Whelan.

> “I’m sure he will have been promised a sizeable amount of cash to spend which is something that he never had during his time at Newcastle. He defied the odds on a small budget while he was there.

> “If you give a world-class manager like him money to spend they will spend it wisely. He has great relationships with owners, players, clubs…

> “He knows what he wants and how to get it and he will address Everton’s weaknesses in the transfer market.

> “Everton are getting a brilliant manager and a brilliant man manager. He is a very likeable character. It is a great appointment if you strip away the red.”

Everton fans have been treated to[sizeable squad spending](https://www.grandoldteam.com/2021/02/13/farhad-moshiri-5-years-in-a-study-of-the-previous-big-spenders/) in recent years, and a new era under Benitez is the perfect impetus for that trend to continue.

A war chest would better-enable Benitez to shape the squad in his image, bringing in personnel better-attuned to his preferred system.

In that sense, funding could be a likely prospect as a result of the continued faith placed in the prospective appointment, despite fan backlash.
