Opposition Danger Men: Sunderland

Everton and Sunderland occupy opposite ends of the table after the first three opening games of the season. The Toffees currently lie in fourth place, unbeaten with seven points; sitting only behind sides with 100% records. Sunderland meanwhile, sit in 16th, with only a single point to their name.

The most recent round of games saw Everton edge out Stoke in a tight 1-0 victory, courtesy of an unfortunate own-goal from Shay Given. Sunderland narrowly missed out on securing their first win of the season, with Southampton’s Jay Rodriguez scoring late on to bring the score level at 1-1.

Sunderland’s side has changed from game to game this season, as ex-Everton manager David Moyes continues to juggle new signings, upcoming youth products, and club stalwarts in his match day selections. Everton’s side has, for the most part, remained the same, save for new signings and players returning from injury finding their way back into the line-up.

Sunderland brought in club record signing Didier N’Dong on transfer deadline day, whilst Everton brought in youth signing Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Enner Valencia on loan.

So here we look at the three Sunderland players who could prove to be the biggest thorns in Everton’s proverbial side, and the one player who will be of most value to Ronald Koeman’s side if Everton are to emerge from the dust with all three points secure.

Let us know down below who you think Everton’s most important player will be.
