# Oviedo backs Gomes to come back from injury even stronger

Former Everton defender has backed Andre Gomes to come back from his recent injury as an even stronger player.

The Portugal international suffered a fracture dislocation to his right ankle following a challenge from Tottenham’s Heung-min Son over a week ago, and he is expected to now miss most of the rest of the season, if not all of it.

Copenhagen left-back Oviedo, who left Everton for Sunderland in 2017, has also experienced his fair share of leg injury issues, having broken his leg during a FA Cup match against Stevenage for the Blues.

[Talking to Everton’s website](https://www.evertonfc.com/news/1494124/oviedo-has-no-doubt-gomes-can-come-back-stronger), the Costa Rica international has admitted he felt plenty of empathy for Gomes, and has encouraged him to come back stronger than before. Oviedo said:

> It is a really hard moment for a player when you feel something bad has happened.
>
> It was difficult for me when I saw what happened to Andre because I knew what he would have been feeling.
>
> You are in shock and don’t know how this could happen to you, it is like a dream, ‘This can’t be happening right now’, and you are feeling a lot of pain.
>
> But in this period, you need to stay strong and keep going, it is the only way. Andre can come back stronger, no doubt.

Oviedo has always been a top guy, so it doesn’t surprise me that he has plenty of positive things to say.

Gomes faces a tough road ahead of him for sure but with the support of his club, his family and his teammate I’m certain he’ll battle back to where he left off at Goodison Park.
