# Patrick Boyland reveals £1bn Friedkin asking price and Everton January stance

**The Friedkin Group is expected to seek around £1billion for [Everton](https://readeverton.com/) as it explores the sale of a controlling interest, according to [The Athletic’s Patrick Boyland](https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7689518/2026/10/16/everton-tfg-ownership-sale-explainer/).**

Boyland also reports that the owners are prepared to provide money for a striker in January if the right opportunity arises, despite the uncertainty surrounding the club’s ownership. TFG confirmed last week that Moelis & Company had been appointed to explore investment or the sale of a controlling interest, less than two years after completing its Everton takeover.

The Athletic says the process remains at an early stage, with signs of interest already emerging, particularly from the United States.

## Friedkins prepared to fund January striker

According to Boyland, Everton’s departmental budgets were agreed before the season and remain largely unchanged following the decision to explore a sale.

Sources with inside knowledge told The Athletic that TFG would provide funds for a striker in January if the right opportunity arose, with Everton short of attacking options following Beto’s departure and the collapse of a proposed move for Folarin Balogun.

Everton have already been [linked with several potential January striker targets](https://readeverton.com/everton-january-striker-targets-lepaul-beljo-kofane-lonergan/), with Thierno Barry currently Moyes’ only recognised senior striker. Boyland reports that TFG is in no rush to sell and does not urgently need to raise cash, with funds available to continue supporting Everton while the process takes place.

## Everton valuation could reach £1bn

The Athletic reports that TFG is expected to seek around £1bn from potential buyers, with early interest understood to have come particularly from the United States. That figure would be significantly higher than the £331.3m TFG paid for Everton through its Roundhouse Capital Holdings investment vehicle in December 2024.

Boyland reports that Everton are now considered a more attractive investment proposition than they were when TFG arrived, having stabilised financially and moved into the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

However, The Athletic also notes that the club remains loss-making, carries significant debt and will require substantial funding from any future owner looking to close the gap on the Premier League’s leading clubs.

For now, TFG is expected to continue funding Everton while the search for investment or a potential buyer progresses.
