# Pennington wants Everton return in January

Matthew Pennington is desperate to return to Everton in January after struggling for minutes during his loan spell with Hull City, according to reports.

Pennington signed for the Tigers on a season-loan loan in the summer, alongside fellow Everton teammate Josh Bowler.

The 25-year old centre-back has played just 17 minutes of Championship football, and the defender has grown frustrated with the lack of opportunities at the KCOM Stadium, [according to Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/exclusive-25-yr-old-preparing-to-quit-loan-make-everton-return/).

Everton would likely organise another loan spell for Pennington, who does not feature in Marco Silva’s first-team plans.

Pennington’s move to Hull was his sixth loan move away from Goodison Park, the third season-long loan to the Championship in as many years.

At this point in Pennington’s career, it would be best for the defender if he left on a permanent basis. At 25, he is no longer a youngster waiting for his breakthrough, and he won’t feature for Everton going forward.

Hopefully a solution can be found for the defender that will benefit his career going forward, because he isn’t going to find that his Everton career takes off, unfortunately.
