# Phil Kirkbride Asks Everton Fans for Ancelotti Patience

Liverpool Echo journalist Phil Kirkbride has urged [Everton](https://readeverton.com/2021/05/27/simon-jordan-rips-into-ancelotti-for-everton-tenure/) fans to allow for more time for Carlo Ancelotti’s tenure to play out.

Everton again failed to secure European football this season, with the Toffees just about mustering a[finish in the top half](https://www.premierleague.com/tables)of the table.

Despite consistently challenging for the top eight spots, the Toffees came unstuck at times with an ultimately deleterious effect on Everton’s European ambitions.

Although Ancelotti’s first full season at Goodison Park has been filled with positives, fans and officials alike will be disappointed that the club could not capitalise on strong moments.

Nonetheless, the club has enjoyed plenty of positives; Ben Godfrey has emerged as a hot prospect and [has been rewarded](https://www.sportsmole.co.uk/football/england/euro-2020/news/ben-godfrey-delighted-with-england-call-up_449118.html)with a provisional England call-up, whilst long-term plans appear to be taking motion.

Instrumental recruitment guru Marcel Brands has [penned fresh terms](https://royalbluemersey.sbnation.com/2021/4/21/22285920/everton-latest-news-marcel-brands-signs-new-contract-2024-extend-transfers-update-carlo-ancelotti#:~:text=Everton%20director%20of%20football%20Marcel,until%20the%20summer%20of%202024.) with the club, while Everton’s proposed new Bramley-Moore Dock stadium was given the green light.

However, on-pitch concerns remain ever-present. In a fan Q&A with [the Liverpool Echo](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/james-leon-bailey-everton-transfer-20679920), Kirkbride was asked what needs to change for Everton to truly achieve improved on-field success.

The journalist claimed:

> “I fully believe Carlo needs time.

> “The initial ruthless streak of hiring and firing managers that \[Farhad\] Moshiri brought to the club was almost refreshing, but now is the time for stability.

> “Ancelotti and \[Marcel\] Brands are contracted for another three years at the club. They’ll need it.”

Patience is certainly a harmless thing, given how longer-term aspects of the club’s vision are taking shape.

Ancelotti’s tactical nous can only be questioned up to a point. When tasked by some of Europe’s biggest clubs to deliver silverware and sustained success, the Italian tactician [has often delivered.](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/carlo-ancelotti/profil/trainer/523)

Allowing another season for recruitment in vital areas, the chance to offload deadwood and work on new ideas between seasons could serve as vital catalysts for lasting positive change at Everton.
