# Pickford claims derby inexperience benefits Everton

Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford believes that a lack of derby experience among Everton’s summer signing contingent could bode the Blues well.

In recent years, it has become commonplace for Everton to appear intimidated by Liverpool, whom they haven’t beaten away since 1999.

However, Pickford claims there is a freshness in Marco Silva’s Everton squad that could provide the club with a boost ahead of what will inevitably prove to be a tough fixture.

As reported by [Mirror Sport](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/gylfi-sigurdsson-reveals-evertons-mood-13663145), Pickford explained the Toffees’ mentality going into the game on Sunday, saying:

> Every game we play, we want to win. I think as a group of lads, we have a great squad mentality.

> Some new signings have come in. We’re playing really well, they’re flying all the new signings. They will go into the derby not knowing what to expect really.

> So that will be positive for us and we have the experienced lads to help as well.

Everton have impressed in recent weeks, earning a well fought point against Chelsea and grinding a result out against Cardiff, despite not playing their best football.

And supporters will look to the club’s recent fighting spirit and determination to win as a huge positive going into the weekend.
