# Player Ratings: Tottenham 0-0 Everton

Everton and Tottenham played out an entertaining 0-0 draw at White Hart Lane on Saturday evening.

The Blues had Tim Howard to thank for keeping them in the game at times, but they also had their opportunities to score.

Here are Read Everton’s player ratings:

**Tim Howard –** Howard kept the Blues in the game on Saturday with some very smart saves. He didn’t cover himself in glory against Manchester City but he redeemed himself at White Hart Lane. He helped Everton through some rough spells, collected some loose balls and played a huge part in earning the Toffees a point. Much better from the American. Man-of-the-match. **9**

**Seamus Coleman –** The Irishman was troubled by Nacer Chadli for much of the game and wasn’t rock solid defensively. Tottenham got a bit of joy down Coleman’s side during the game, although he wasn’t exactly protected by Arouna Kone. He works better with a proper winger in front of him, his offensive contribution was also lacking against Spurs. **5**

**John Stones –** “I don’t care too much for money, money can’t buy you Stones.” Best part of the whole trip was that chant blaring out from the away end.

We all know the situation with John Stones, but this was a more secure performance from the 21-year-old. Made a couple of mistakes but in all honesty they were expected, Stones looked more like his usual, composed self. Bailed his team-mates out a couple of times. **6**

**Phil Jagielka –** Jagielka put his shaky display at Oakwell behind him by delivering a solid performance in North London. He had to cover for Oviedo a couple of times and eased Stones through the game. Wasn’t sharp in his possession but carried out his defensive and leadership duties well. **6**

**Bryan Oviedo –** The Costa Rican is still working his way back to full fitness and he was seemingly targeted by Pochettino’s side, who fashioned a few chances from Oviedo’s wing.

He offered more of an attacking threat than Galloway but until he reaches his peak fitness levels he’ll always be a worry. Barry and Jagielka had to take care of him throughout the game. **5**

**Gareth Barry –** A really encouraging display from the veteran, who was making his 700th career appearance. He protected the defence, disrupted Tottenham’s rhythm and distributed the ball smartly, the 34-year-old stalwart is showing that he still has something to offer Everton after a questionable previous campaign. **7**

**James McCarthy –** Not his most effective outing but a decent display from the Irishman. Recycled possession well, made himself an option for his team-mates and got amongst the Tottenham midfield, McCarthy needs to build on this display and reach the high standard we know he is capable of. **6**

**Tom Cleverley –** Wasted one of Everton’s best chances of the match, Cleverley was his usual intelligent, industrious, positive self before picking up an injury just before half-time. Let’s hope Cleverley is back playing soon, he’s been nothing but positive in a royal blue shirt so far. **6**

**Arouna Kone –** Left Coleman exposed at times and didn’t exactly terrorise the Tottenham backline, but Kone showed why he is becoming a useful asset to the side with strong hold-up play, good dribbling and an eye for a pass. Tired towards the end. **6**

**Ross Barkley –** Ross looked full of confidence and vigour. It’s great to see him play with belief in his ability, Tottenham put two men on him for the majority of the game but he still found ways to make an impact. Barkley is starting to do the simple things more often, and his direct attitude and running were real positives, as always. Needs to work on his set-piece delivery, mind. **7**

**Romelu Lukaku –** 120 minutes at Barnsley seemed to catch up with the big Belgian, who didn’t make any real impact on the game. That said, he was starved of service and was having to chase stray balls for much of the game, Martinez needs to find a way of playing to his strengths on a regular basis. **5**

***Substitutes:***

***Kevin Mirallas –*** Brought on just before half-time because of Cleverley’s injury, Mirallas never really got a foothold in the game but he did offer cover for Bryan Oviedo. Flashed a free-kick over the bar but did little else. **5**

***Steven Naismith –*** Naismith subtly changed the game when he came on. Up until his arrival Everton were largely under the cosh and rode their luck at times, but the Scot’s energy, ability in the air and knack for winning fouls took some of the pressure off his defence. Made some dangerous runs but the ball didn’t fall for him. **6**

***Gerard Deulofeu –*** Looked lively but didn’t have enough time to make a significant impact. **N/A.**
