# Pundit believes ‘quality’ Salomon Rondon could keep starting spot

Former Premier League defender Leroy Rosenior has claimed that [Salomon Rondon](https://readeverton.com/2021/09/25/kevin-campbell-urges-salomon-rondon-to-seize-his-everton-place/) may have earned an ongoing starting role for [Everton](https://readeverton.com/2021/10/07/virals-everton-can-sign-fc-porto-winger-luis-diaz-for-42-5m/).

The deadline day summer signing has been filling in for Domenic Calvert-Lewin whilst the Englishman is [absent](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11671/12407363/dominic-calvert-lewin-everton-striker-facing-weeks-out-with-toe-and-quad-injuries-says-rafael-benitez) through injury.

Coinciding with the [loss of Brazilian ace Richarlison](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/richarlison-everton-injury-21609304), Rondon has enjoyed a prolonged run in Rafa Benitez’s side.

Speaking to [Premier League Fanzone](https://www.premierleague.com/), Rosenior suggested that the experienced Venezuelan striker could continue to feature when the duo return.

> When Calvert-Lewin comes back, maybe he’ll have to be on the bench given how well Rondon is doing. Rafa has not just added depth but has brought in quality.

Rondon is yet to score for the Toffees in [five appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/salomon-rondon/leistungsdaten/spieler/80197) across all competitions – earning a [6.60 average Sofascore rating](https://www.sofascore.com/player/salomon-rondon/35532) in the Premier League.

By contrast, Calvert-Lewin has netted [three goals in three league games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/dominic-calvert-lewin/leistungsdaten/spieler/306024) prior to the injury setback, whilst Richarlison has [one goal and one assist](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/richarlison/leistungsdaten/spieler/378710) in four outings.

### READ EVERTON VERDICT

Realistically this notion is a wild non-starter.

As soon as either first-choice frontman returns to full fitness and availability, they will likely be straight back into the [lineup](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/everton-norwich-team-news-lineups-b1924954.html) at Rondon’s expense.

As well as the [target man](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/25964/Show/Salom%C3%B3n-Rond%C3%B3n) has done leading the line, he struggles to offer the same goal threat as the others.

Use as an impact substitute and perhaps during a prolonged [FA Cup](https://www.thefa.com/competitions/thefacup/round-dates) run will be more in the Venezuelan’s wheelhouse over the course of the season.

Everton will [welcome West Ham to Goodison Park](https://www.evertonfc.com/fixtures) immediately following the international break.
