# Pundit tips Everton move for Sean Longstaff to ‘get done’ in January

Former [Everton](https://readeverton.com/2021/10/14/pundit-believes-everton-can-definitely-push-for-europe-with-squad-additions/) striker Kevin Campbell has tipped his ex-employers to sign Newcastle United midfielder [Sean Longstaff](https://readeverton.com/2021/08/16/paddy-kenny-endorses-sean-longstaff-for-everton-move/) in January.

This comes following [reported](https://theathletic.com/2762291/2021/08/10/while-rivals-make-moves-everton-are-stuck-in-a-malaise/) summer interest from Rafa Benitez in bringing the 23-year-old to Goodison Park.

[Out of contract](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sean-longstaff/profil/spieler/346707) in June 2022, Longstaff faces an uncertain future at St James’ Park following a mega-money takeover last week.

Speaking to [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/newcastle-tipped-to-cast-aside-longstaff-after-everton-hold-initial-talks-campbell/), Campbell suggested a move to Merseyside could still be on the cards.

> Longstaff has been linked with Rafa Benitez at Everton. Benitez really likes him so that one will get one I think. Look, Newcastle have big bank now. The expectations have changed overnight. Youngsters like Longstaff are probably going to be cast aside for experienced players like \[Georginio\] Wijnaldum. I’m sure there has been and will be negotiations with Longstaff. He could stay and be part of the squad but does he really want that? If he’s serious he will want to get away and play. I can’t see him re-signing. Newcastle won’t want him to leave on a free though so they’ll probably try and do something in January.

So far this season Longstaff has [scored once](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sean-longstaff/leistungsdaten/spieler/346707) in seven Premier League appearances for the Toon.

During Benitez’ tenure in the North East, the homegrown star [netted twice and provided one assist](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sean-longstaff/leistungsdatentrainer/spieler/346707/plus/0/saison/2018/verein/762/trainer_id/1522) in 13 outings.

### READ EVERTON VERDICT

Still young at 23 despite seemingly being around at the [top level](https://www.premierleague.com/players/14897/Sean-Longstaff/stats) for many years. The combative midfielder has time to evolve into a high-quality operator.

Everton are [relatively strong](https://www.evertonfc.com/teams/first-team) in the midfield department and would be wise to hold off a January move to wait to see how contract negotiations unfold.

Valued at £13.50million ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sean-longstaff/marktwertverlauf/spieler/346707)), signing Longstaff for nothing next summer would be a shrewd piece of business from the Toffees.
