# Rojo angry after Everton move collapsed – Did Everton miss out?

Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo is reportedly angry at having his Deadline Day transfer to Everton fall through, [according to The Times](https://www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/sport/alexis-sanchez-wants-to-leave-manchester-united-before-european-window-closes-hgwq95nr6).

The Argentine defender was heavily linked with a switch to Goodison Park on the final day of the English transfer window, although a deal ultimately failed to materialise after the two clubs couldn’t agree on what type of deal to do.

United wanted to sell the 29-year old, who had fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford, however the Toffees were concerned over his injury record and only wanted a season-long loan deal, and both clubs refused to budge.

Everton eventually failed to sign a centre-back to replace Kurt Zouma, despite having spent the entire transfer window looking to find the Frenchman’s successor.

Rojo has only made one start under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for United and following the signing of Harry Maguire, the versatile defender appears to be even further away from the first-team, having been left out of the club’s opening game match-day squad against Chelsea.

### Read Everton Verdict

As frustrating as it must have been for Rojo, I’m glad that Everton stuck to their guns over the type of deal they wanted. It’s fair to say that many Everton fans had been left disappointed over the promise of signing Rojo, and that would have been compounded had Everton paid United’s inflated fee.

While the Argentina international has shown his quality in the past, in this market I can’t understand how United can warrant a £25million fee, especially when his fitness levels and injury record are brought into the equation.

Everton’s failure to sign a centre-back could yet come back to haunt them, but I’d sooner see them struggle with the options they have than over-pay for an underwhelming option because needs must.
