# Rojo deal looks unlikely – Has Everton’s transfer window been a failure?

Marcos Rojo is now unlikely to sign for Everton on Transfer Deadline Day, as reported by Sky Sports News ([via Mirror Sport](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/transfer-news-live-dybala-zaha-17678250)), meaning Everton will have signed zero players on the transfer window’s final day.

It had appeared that Rojo would be the club’s sole signing today after it was declared that Wilfried Zaha was to stay at Crystal Palace, while no news has emerged on any prospective Alex Iwobi deal. However, with Everton and Manchester United still not close to agreeing a deal, a move for the Argentine defender looks unlikely.

United are said to want a permanent transfer for Rojo, with £25million touted earlier today as a probable fee, while Everton would prefer a loan agreement.

Despite many Everton fans being apprehensive about whether Rojo would be the right signing, it is a disappointing development for the club who have now failed to fill the gap left by Kurt Zouma.

This is massively disappointing for me, and I’m not a particular fan of Marcos Rojo. While I was hoping for some more inspiring defensive targets, Everton have now gone from three prospective players who will fill problem positions, to nothing.

Everton have undoubtedly made some strong signings this summer, but in certain areas they are clearly weaker, and the signing of a promising forward does not paper over those cracks.

While Rojo wasn’t the most inspiring choice, he would fill a gap that needs filling, and now Everton fans will be left praying that the squad can avoid major injuries.
