# Salzburg declare that they won’t sell Everton target Hwang

Red Bull Salzburg have defiantly expressed that they will not sell forward Hee-chan Hwang this month, [as reported by The Argus](https://www.theargus.co.uk/sport/18166870.red-bull-salzburg-stakes-hee-chan-hwang/).

[The Athletic had reported](https://theathletic.co.uk/1512735/2020/01/13/january-transfer-window-signings-tracker-2020/) earlier this week that Everton were one of several Premier League clubs, including Brighton, Wolves and Leicester, to have tracked Hwang closely this season.

[However the report also claims](https://theathletic.co.uk/1512735/2020/01/13/january-transfer-window-signings-tracker-2020/) that Everton have no intention of bidding for the South Korean forward this month, just that they are monitoring his progress.

The 23-year old is considered to be [Salzburg’s prized asset](https://www.theargus.co.uk/sport/18166870.red-bull-salzburg-stakes-hee-chan-hwang/), and the Austrian club are not prepared to let the striker leave the club currently.

[As reported by the Argus](https://www.theargus.co.uk/sport/18166870.red-bull-salzburg-stakes-hee-chan-hwang/), Salzburg chief Christoph Freund has explained that the Austrian Bundesliga champions are not willing to let Hwang go, saying:

> We won’t sell Hwang, not even for 40 million Euros (about £34 million).

[The Athletic however](https://theathletic.co.uk/1512735/2020/01/13/january-transfer-window-signings-tracker-2020/) believed that it would still be possible for either Brighton or Wolves to sign the forward this month before loaning him back to Salzburg, although, as mentioned above, Everton aren’t prepared to make a move this month.

### Read Everton Verdict

Should we believe the reporting from [The Athletic](https://theathletic.co.uk/1512735/2020/01/13/january-transfer-window-signings-tracker-2020/), that Everton don’t have any intention of moving for Hee-chan Hwang this month, then much of what Salzburg say about their intentions with the South Korean are irrelevant to Everton’s current situation. However, as the Toffees hold a long-term interest, it could be important information regarding the club’s future plans.

Hwang has scored six goals in 14 Austrian Bundesliga games this season, while he has also managed three goals in six Champions League fixtures, with a [WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/262854/Show/Hwang-Hee-Chan) rating of 7.69 in the latter competition. While he may not be the most prolific striker in the world, those are some respectable figures for the 23-year old, especially compared to his disappointing return for Hamburg last season, where he scored just twice in 20 appearances in the German second flight ([Soccer Base](https://www.soccerbase.com/players/player.sd?player_id=89327&season_id=151)).

Interestingly, WhoScored claim that while Hwang is a strong passer of the ball and a ‘very strong’ dribbler, the outlet list finishing as one of his weaknesses, which isn’t ideal for a forward. Ultimately it will be interesting to watch this space, should he remain in Salzburg, where we’ll have to wait and see if Everton reignite interest at a later date.
