# Schalke are keen to sign Kenny permanently

Schalke have reaffirmed their desire to sign Jonjoe Kenny on a permanent deal following the end of his season-long loan move, [according to Mail Online](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-7887991/Schalke-line-permanent-deal-sign-loan-right-Jonjoe-Kenny-Everton.html).

It was first reported in the print version of Sport Bild in October ([via GGFN](https://www.getfootballnewsgermany.com/2019/schalke-04-want-to-keep-jonjoe-kenny/)) that Schalke’s sporting director Jochen Schneider had expressed an interest in keeping the Everton full-back beyond his current loan deal.

Kenny has played in every one of Schalke’s Bundesliga matches this season so far, scoring on one occasion and assisting twice ([WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/255961/Show/Jonjoe-Kenny)), having quickly become a mainstay under former Huddersfield manager David Wagner.

The 22-year old wouldn’t be drawn on his long-term plans for the future in November, when he [spoke about his loan spell with Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/watch/video/sports/football/teams/everton/11860310/evertons-kenny-progressing-in-bundesliga), claiming he was focusing on doing the best he can for the Gelsenkirchen outfit.

Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham were all named as parties who hold an interest in Kenny’s signature [by Mail Online in December](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-7840663/What-sides-need-January-Premier-League-managers-want.html), while the [outlet now claim](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-7887991/Schalke-line-permanent-deal-sign-loan-right-Jonjoe-Kenny-Everton.html) that Schalke are once again keen to keep Kenny on a long-term basis.

### Read Everton Verdict

Speaking at Everton’s AGM yesterday ([via Liverpool Echo](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/marcel-brands-explains-everton-transfer-17568853)), Brands was full of praise for Kenny’s loan situation, claiming that the Toffees are pleased with the progress he has been making for the Germany club, which to me would suggest that Everton certainly don’t have any immediate plans to consider selling Kenny.

Particuarly with Seamus Coleman reaching the end of his career and with Djibril Sidibe’s future not yet certain, it would be premature and not very professional for the Blues to consider selling a young full-back who has proved to be an impressive player this season, and the amount of clubs who are now interested in him goes to prove that.

Kenny may well elect to leave if Everton can’t promise him regular first-team football, but for the benefit of the club over the player, Ancelotti’s men shouldn’t consider selling the defender.
