# Sherwood hails Gana ahead of Merseyside derby

Former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood has hailed Idrissa Gana Gueye ahead of Everton’s Merseyside derby clash with Liverpool on Sunday.

Gana has enjoyed a successful start to the season, starring for Everton in a consistently high-performing midfield trio of himself, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Andre Gomes.

Sherwood, who brought the Senegal international midfielder to England when he signed for Aston Villa in 2015, believes that Gana’s form is to be expected, and indicated that his pedigree could be the difference in the big game at Anfield this weekend.

As reported by the [Liverpool Echo](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/former-premier-league-manager-hails-15489442), Sherwood hailed Gana’s determination in always demanding a high performance level from himself, saying:

> He \[Gueye\] is someone I had at Aston Villa. You know what you’re getting with Idrissa, and the best thing to do for him and that’s what Marco Silva has done is to simplify his game.

> He’s told him to break it up. Break up the play, do what you’re good at. He feeds off making tackles, he’s made the most tackles in the Premier League this season. That is what he does brilliantly.

> He’s a great lad, really good guy, but, he’s got a good blend in there. He doesn’t care who he’s playing against, he could play in a World Cup final and he’ll play exactly the same way.

> He just wants to make tackles, that for him is like an assist or a goal, that’s his bread and butter.

> He’s a dream. When things weren’t going so well you could always rely on him to give you what he’s got. He was at least a seven out of 10 minimum every single week, when you put him up on the pitch.
