# Sidibe’s agent reveals the defender is willing to fight

Djibril Sidibe’s agent has responded to speculation, claiming that the defender is prepared to fight for his place.

Sidibe was seen by some Everton fans are a fairly significant coup, with the World Cup winner and former Champions League star signed on a season-long loan with a relatively small purchase option attached.

While Seamus Coleman now entering the final years of his career and with Jonjoe Kenny out on loan with Schalke, Sidibe filled a necessary hole in the squad with perhaps more quality than some fans had expected.

However, Sidibe has had to be patient, only earning his first Premier League start against West Ham due to Coleman’s suspension, where he performed well enough to keep his spot against Brighton.

Many reports have claimed that the 27-year old was growing tired of spending time on the sidelines and was eyeing a January exit, a claim that was eliminated last week after it was revealed that Monaco do not have an early recall clause

Seran Diabate, Sidibe’s agent, claims that the Frenchman was also prepared to be patient for his opportunity at Goodison Park, with the full-back understanding he wasn’t entitled to an automatic starting berth. Talking to L’Equipe ([via Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/hes-fight-agent-says-player-wont-give-everton-chance-easily/)), Diabate said:

> Djibril has taken his trouble with patience, with the objective of showing his qualities when we would appeal to him.
>
> Everton absolutely wanted him, with the idea of preparing for the next generation in the position since Coleman is 31 years old.
>
> After, when you arrive on loan, you do not have the same status as when you were bought €25m, the sum that Atlético de Madrid proposed in 2018 to Monaco.
>
> And even, look at Moise Kean, bought by Everton for €40m last summer! He does not have many opportunities either.
>
> Players who go to the Premier League know that in England it sometimes takes a little more time than elsewhere before you get a chance.

Diabete also claimed that Sidibe’s fitness issues are now firmly behind him, saying that he is willing to fight for his place for the remainder of the season. Diabete said:

> He has no more physical worries.
>
> When he replayed recently, he went on long runs, tackled, centred.
>
> The second part of last season in Monaco allowed him to recover even if his performances were not at the top, like those of the team, which ended up escaping relegation.
>
> After, he wanted to change the air. We will take stock at the end of the season. He knows it’s not going to be easy, but he’s here to fight, as he always has.

### Read Everton Verdict

It was always expected that the reports that had claimed that Sidibe was unhappy were not totally accurate, as they never seemed to make much sense.

Either way, it is good to hear that Sidibe has every intention of fighting for his place this season and earning a potential permanent transfer next summer.

Coleman may be past his best but he is still capable of replacing Sidibe if he doesn’t perform, so the Frenchman will need to maintain his high performance levels throughout the season.
