# Silva expects Delph to miss West Ham – another big loss for Everton

Marco Silva expects to be without Fabian Delph for Saturday’s clash against West Ham at Goodison Park.

The midfielder withdrew from the England squad during the recent international break after picking up a hamstring injury in Everton’s recent Premier League loss against Burnley.

Now Silva doesn’t expect him to be fit to face the Hammers, as [reported by the Liverpool Echo](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/marco-silva-faces-continued-midfield-17094559), which will be a huge blow for the Toffees.

Following yesterday’s news about JP Gbamin having his time on the sidelines extended by three months after undergoing surgery, Silva will be pulling his hair out over his midfield options.

While Andre Gomes will surely start, Silva will have to pick between Morgan Schneiderlin and Tom Davies to partner the summer signing, while he could also elect to field Gylfi Sigurdsson in a deeper position.

This comes at a difficult time for Silva, who faces a huge amount of pressure to get Everton back to winning ways against the Hammers, with the club having lost their last four consecutive Premier League fixtures.

Following the news about JP Gbamin’s lay-off having been extended, the last thing Everton need is more injury news in midfield.

At least until January, it seems Marco Silva will need to rely on Andre Gomes and Delph to perform, and an injury to either could ultimately spell the end of Silva’s time as boss on Merseyside.

He does have Schneiderlin to rely on, although he simply doesn’t bring the same level of quality or commitment to the table that Delph does, and his presence seems to slow the club’s momentum on the field.

Fans will be desperately hoping to see a more positive line-up against West Ham, but Schneiderlin will likely play, and Silva will need to hope his side can manage without the two-time Premier League winner.
