# Silva hails Digne’s quality on and off the field – could the defender keep the captain’s armband?

Marco Silva has hailed Lucas Digne, claiming he offers much more than simply quality on the pitch.

The left-back signed for the Toffees just over a year ago for around £18million from Barcelona, a rather modest fee considering the defender’s resume.

The France international has already played for Paris Saint-Germain and Roma as well as Barca, a CV that is largely indicative of his quality.

The 26-year old also won Everton’s Player of the Year award for his performances during the previous campaign, an award many fans believe he was very deserving of.

[Talking to Everton’s official website](https://www.evertonfc.com/news/1365795/silva-explains-why-digne-is-one-of-the-best), Silva waxed lyrical about Digne and how he has quickly established himself as a major player on Merseyside, saying:

> Lucas has everything we expect from a professional football player. Everything. And I am not just talking about his quality – everyone knows his quality.
>
> It is a pleasure to manage a player like him.
>
> Lucas was an example every day at Finch Farm last season, so it was an easy choice to give him this position \[Captain’s armband\]… it is important to have these types of examples in important roles in our team.

None of Silva’s words are surprising whatsoever, as Digne really is a treasure of a player to have at Everton.

Not only is he so good on the field, his presence off of it and on social media particularly has been fantastic, in regards to striking up a relationship with the fan base specifically.

Adequately replacing Leighton Baines was considered an impossible task by many, but somehow Marcel Brands was able to pull off a signing that has surpassed the expectations of the large majority of fans.

Everton now just need to stand firm when the inevitable transfer interest comes knocking.
