# Silva hails Mina confidence

Marco Silva has praised Yerry Mina, and has encouraged him to continue building on his confidence.

Mina started alongside Michael Keane and Kurt Zouma in a back three against Burnley at Turf Moor on Wednesday, and the Colombia international opened the scoring for the away side as Everton ran out 5-1 victors in Lancashire.

Mina netted three times for Colombia at the World Cup in Russia last summer, however the game against the Clarets saw him score his first for his new club, having joined Everton from Barcelona following the international tournament.

Having missed just one game since making his debut, a very good performance in a clean sheet result against Chelsea in early November, Silva has encouraged the 24-year old to keep up the form shown in his early performances.

Talking following the game, as reported by [Everton’s official website](https://www.evertonfc.com/news/2018/12/27/silva-on-mina), Silva said of Mina:

> For me, it was a very good performance \[against Burnley\] but not his best. In his full debut against Chelsea he played very well. But he was very good on Boxing Day and that is important for him to grow his confidence.

> Yerry is a new player in this country and he is having to learn a new language. That is vital for everyone but especially when you play in a specific position like he does.

> I want him always in command, with good communication with his teammates, and knowing our ideas for that position and what we want as a squad. He is improving in this situation and is learning English as fast as he can. But it was certainly a good performance from Yerry.

Mina himself expressed how proud he was to have opened his account for his new club, with the second minute header proving to be Everton’s 7,000th in the top flight.

Speaking to [Everton’s official website](https://www.evertonfc.com/news/2018/12/27/mina), Mina said of his goal and the club’s achievement:

> I am so proud to score such a significant goal for the Football Club. For me, personally, it was a special goal but it is also a celebration of all the famous names who have scored for this great team.

> To be the first club to reach 7,000 goals demonstrates what I knew when I arrived here – that it is an important club with a big history.

> I am really happy with my goal, it came at a really good time. But I was even happier that it helped contribute to an important win.

> The team was hurt by the Tottenham result but this was a new game, we prepared for the match well and that showed in the performance.
