# Silva provides update on Mina situation

Marco Silva has provided an update on Yerry Mina’s injury condition, although he cannot yet establish an exact timeline for his return.

Mina was a somewhat surprise inclusion in Everton’s starting line-up to face Watford in yesterday’s Carabao Cup clash.

Having missed last weekend’s Premier League loss to Brighton through injury, it had been expected that Mina would sit out the midweek game in preparation to make his return against Tottenham on Sunday.

However, Silva handed Mina a start alongside Mason Holgate against the Hornets, but after tweaking something during a routine short pass, Mina came off for Michael Keane late into the first-half.

Speaking after the game, Silva allayed some fears by revealing that Mina walked away from Goodison Park while claiming to be pain free, although he couldn’t name a firm return date for the Colombian defender.

When asked whether Mina would miss Spurs this weekend, as [reported by the Liverpool Echo](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/marco-silva-provides-yerry-mina-17169044), Silva said:

> It’s too early to say to you about that.
>
> Before the game he was completely okay. When we changed close to half-time he was in pain in that moment. When I spoke to him at the end of the game he was walking and did not feel pain no more. So it is a little strange.
>
> It is nothing special he has, even the injury was nothing really special. He had some pain disturbing him but we hope he will be okay in the next day or two.

### Read Everton Verdict

From the off it didn’t seem like a wise move to bring Mina into the line-up against the Hornets, although if Silva is trying to take the cup seriously I can sort of see his reasoning.

Either way, it doesn’t sound like Mina’s injury is anything too serious. Hopefully the Colombian is back before Tottenham, although if he isn’t, I’m reasonably happy with Mason Holgate’s performances as of late.

His debut goal for Everton against Watford capped out a strong week for the 23-year old, who impressed in Mina’s stead against Brighton at the weekend. If he lines up again against Spurs, I won’t be too concerned that our best defender this season is missing.
