# Silva singles out Walcott for praise following Watford win

Marco Silva has singled out Theo Walcott for praise after his performance in Everton’s 2-0 win over Watford on Tuesday.

The Blues beat the Hornets at Goodison Park to progress into the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup, where they will now face Leicester City at home for a place in the final four.

Walcott came on at half-time against Quique Sanchez Flores’ side, replacing Moise Kean who had been playing wide right.

The former Arsenal man made an immediate impact, helping bring other players such as Alex Iwobi into play more by helping to create space, while his expertly timed cross found Mason Holgate for Everton’s opener 20 minutes from time.

Walcott has gone through a mini resurgence in recent weeks, having previously fallen out of favour among the Everton fan base, while he was restricted to just substitute appearances by Silva.

Now the former Watford boss has praised Walcott, labelling him as a really important player for the Toffees.

Talking about the 30-year old after the game on Tuesday, as [reported by Mirror Sport](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/marco-silva-singles-out-everton-20754246), Silva said:

> Theo played a huge part this evening again – the change we made at half time had a big impact.
>
> He allowed us to build our attacks quicker, and the gaps were bigger. He helped Alex Iwobi have a bigger impact, too. Theo was really important for us.
>
> Theo was always a really important player for me, even sometimes when he was not playing and starting the games. He deserved it. He is in a good moment, a really important player us.

### Read Everton Verdict

Theo really has been a hit in recent weeks and I couldn’t have any qualms if the former Gunner starts against Tottenham on Sunday.

Walcott’s time on Merseyside, for me, was over not too long ago, and I was all but ready for him to be shown the exit door. I’ll hold my hands up and admit that I’ve been mightily impressed by his contributions recently, and I want to see what more he still has to offer.

This comes at a good time for Everton too, who have just lost Bernard for a stretch of time. Hopefully Theo can continue to perform, and that should hopefully make fans not miss the Brazilian as much as expected.
