# Stones Saga rumbles on

Everton will sell John Stones if Chelsea pay up to the tune of £40million, [according to the Independent.](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/transfers/john-stones-to-chelsea-40m-bid-required-to-secure-arrival-of-everton-defender-10461694.html)

The Blues have refused to entertain Chelsea this summer by dismissing bids of £20million, £26million and £30million without a second thought.

Roberto Martinez has repeatedly said that John Stones is not for sale and Chelsea have been explicitly told by Everton on numerous occasions that they have no intention of selling the player.

There is absolutely no financial need for Everton to sell the England international, who is seen as one of the brightest talents in world football, while Stones himself has said that he is happy at Everton and has not attempted to force through a move.

But the report suggests the Goodison hierarchy will struggle to turn down £40million for a player whose ‘potential is not certain’, but there is no substance to back up this claim.

It’s not clear if Chelsea are willing to stump up £40million, a figure that is double their original bid for the 21-year-old.

With two weeks remaining of the transfer window, Everton’s nerve is about to be put to the ultimate test.
