# Tottenham want to sign Ross Barkley before preseason tour

Tottenham Hotspur are keen to sign Everton midfielder Ross Barkley before they head off on their preseason tour of America, as per a report from Steve Bates of the [Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/tottenham-want-ross-barkley-transfer-10804797).

However, Everton have set the asking price for the England international at £50m but Spurs are not prepared to go above £30m as Barkley is about to enter the final season of his contract.

Bates believes that the 23-year-old is keen to make a move to Tottenham, hence why he has rejected the chance to sign a new contract at Goodison Park, but the sticking point for the deal is the transfer fee.

With both clubs seemingly a long way apart in terms of their valuations of Barkley, it seems unlikely that a deal will be done before Spurs jet off to America, although we’ve seen things change very quickly with transfers in the past.
