# Unsworth admits Everton face a relegation battle

Everton caretaker boss David Unsworth has admitted that the club face a relegation battle this season, the [Telegraph](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2017/10/29/everton-relegation-battle-admits-david-unsworth/) reports.

The Toffees are currently sat in the bottom three of the Premier League following a dismal start, made worse by Sunday’s 2-0 defeat against fellow strugglers Leicester City away from home.

> You have to be honest, we are where we are and if we continue like this then we are \[in a relegation battle\]. Sunday’s game against Watford is massive and it’s nothing that a couple of back-to-back wins won’t sort, to give the players that touch of confidence. We need three points quickly.

Unsworth has been in the Everton hot-seat following the dismissal of Ronald Koeman, but no improvement appears to have been made.

The Under-23s boss oversaw a 2-1 defeat in the Carabao Cup in midweek, and although there were signs of optimism, hope was all but crushed by the defeat against the Foxes.

> Whoever gets the honour of being Everton manager, including me, needs time with this set of players.

Everton have suffered a terrible opening ten matches, and also sit at the very bottom of their Europa League group.

It’s likely now that Unsworth faces a return to the U23s post, with the club still maintaining their search for a new manager to replace Koeman at the helm.
