# Unsworth impressed with Browning

David Unsworth has praised young defender Tyias Browning after his string of first team performances, explaining that the Scouser has been ready to take his first team opportunity for a long time.

Due to a lack of defenders through injury, Browning has been thrust into the first team at right-back, and has impressed both the manager and the fans. The Liverpool born defender showed resilience at right-back in the Merseyside Derby, something he also had to do at Anfield last season. In the games in which Tyias has featured, the defence have only conceded five goals and he’s not looked out of place in the first team.

Browning has played five times so far this season for the Blues, and with the management team cautious over Seamus Coleman’s injury, the Englishman may well feature against Manchester United.

Unsworth – who currently manages the Everton U21’s – has coached the right-back through his development at the club and explained that he is not surprised to see Tyias rise through to the first team.

[Speaking to Everton’s official website](https://www.evertonfc.com/news/2015/10/12/unsy-hails-old-fashioned-tyias?), Unsworth said:

“In my opinion, he has been ready for a while,”

“He’s had to be patient and has shown a fantastic attitude to keep working. Whenever he has got that opportunity, he has had to be ready when called upon. He’s certainly taken it and I am very proud of him.”

“It’s just the start of his career and it’s been great to see him in these big games. What people don’t see is the work he has done behind the scenes and the dedication to our club.”

Speaking of the youngsters best qualities, Unsworth explained that it is almost impossible to get around the full-back.

“His pace and power are his obvious massive plus-points and strengths. If you can’t beat him with pace, you can’t outmuscle him either. When you are as big and strong as Tyias, it takes a lot to get past him; an unbelievable amount of skill – or luck!”

In 298 minutes of football, Browning has averaged 1.8 tackles per game, 1.2 interceptions per game and 0.8 fouls per game.

The Englishman has also averaged 2.4 clearances per game and will be hoping to get more minutes for the first team under his belt this season. No doubt he will be relishing the chance to play against Manchester United at the weekend.
