# Virals: Clip Resurfaces of Benitez on the Everton Job

As [Everton](https://readeverton.com/2021/06/16/noel-whelan-backs-everton-to-move-for-conor-coady/) appear to be closing in on the appointment of Rafa Benitez as the Toffees’ new boss, the ex-Liverpool tactician has been the subject of a viral video.

[A clip from 2019](https://twitter.com/NilSatisNews/status/1405223259742867463) from Sky Sports, as circulated by Liverpool fan page [Empire of the Kop](https://www.empireofthekop.com/2021/06/17/video-rafa-benitez-interview-from-2019-hinted-at-taking-everton-job/), saw Benitez discussing whether he would be open to the Everton job with pundits Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher.

Benitez acknowledged his connections to Liverpool, but conversely discussed how he counts many Evertonians as personal friends and holds a deep love for the city of Liverpool.

Iterating that he is a ‘professional’, Benitez claimed that ‘in the future, you never know’ with regards to the job.

That explicit refusal to rule himself out of ever taking up the vacant manager’s role at Goodison Park has caught up with him, with Keith Downie of Sky Sports claiming that a deal for Benitez could be concluded as early as today.

He told the [Sky Sports Transfer Centre](https://www.skysports.com/transfer-centre) last night:

> “Now that it has been offered to him, we do expect him to accept that job and be the successor to Carlo Ancelotti who obviously left for Real Madrid earlier this month.

> “Big story for Everton, really. Rafa Benitez is a man who’s done so well in football right across Europe and he’s set to take over the reins at Goodison Park next season.

> “As we understand it, that one could be wrapped up as early as \[Thursday\].

> “Big story there after pretty much accepting the role from the Everton board.”

As is stands, Benitez had the foresight not to tempt fate by ruling himself out – foresight that has prevented potential embarrassment.
