# Virals: Everton face fresh competition in race for Iddrisu Baba

[Everton](https://readeverton.com/2021/11/04/virals-report-cites-recent-contact-from-everton-for-roger-schmidt/) have recently been linked with a move for Real Mallorca midfielder Iddrisu Baba.

The 25-year-old Ghana international is [hot property](https://www.sofascore.com/player/iddrisu-baba/914014) following two superb La Liga campaigns.

Having initially made a bright start to life at Goodison Park, manager Rafa Benitez is under pressure to turn things around once again following a run of [four Premier League matches](https://www.evertonfc.com/results) without a win.

According to [Calciomercato](https://www.calciomercato.com/news/everton-un-ghanese-per-il-centrocampo-94044), the Blues boss could look to Baba in the January transfer market to kickstart the upturn in fortunes.

Also [believed](https://twitter.com/GhanaLive_/status/1456257125227765766) to be of interest to Atletico Madrid, signing the defensive midfielder may not be plain sailing.

The initial report claims that the Toffees have the [one-cap ace](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/iddrisu-baba/nationalmannschaft/spieler/442805/verein_id/3441) ‘in their sights’ ahead of the mid-season transfer window.

So far this season Baba, who was described as a [‘hard worker’](https://433ghana.com/2020/04/10/real-mallorca-boss-vicente-moreno-heaps-praise-ghana-midfielder-baba-iddrisu-mohammed/) by former manager Vicente Moreno, has earned a [7.03 Sofascore rating](https://www.sofascore.com/player/iddrisu-baba/914014) from 12 league outings.

### READ EVERTON VERDICT

Signing a midfielder has to be high on the list of priorities for Benitez in January.

Despite being relatively [well-stocked](https://www.evertonfc.com/teams/first-team) in terms of numbers, too many of the options available to the Spaniard pick up regular injury issues.

Baba is on record as not missing a game through fitness or injury during his professional career to date, no mean feat given the Ghanaian’s [industry](https://laligaanalysis.com/analysis/player-analysis/iddrisu-baba-2019-2020-scout-report-tactical-analysis-tactics) and playing style.

Valued at £2.25million and under contract until 2024 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/iddrisu-baba/marktwertverlauf/spieler/442805)), Baba should be a relatively attainable option for Everton – even under the restraints of financial fair play.
