# Virals: Everton ‘set sights’ on out of favour Jesse Lingard

[Everton](https://readeverton.com/2021/10/21/virals-everton-defender-yerry-mina-proposed-to-ac-milan/) are reportedly targetting a January swoop for Manchester United attacking midfielder [Jesse Lingard](https://readeverton.com/2020/12/08/everton-should-avoid-jesse-lingard-move-transfer-rumours/).

The 28-year-old returned to Old Trafford from an [outstanding loan spell](https://www.sofascore.com/player/jesse-lingard/205508) with West Ham last season but has struggled for regular starting opportunities in Manchester.

Out of contract at the end of the season, United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is [adamant](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/man-utd-jesse-lingard-contract-25228090) there is a future for the [‘brilliant’](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-10006647/Ole-Gunnar-Solskjaer-showers-Jesse-Lingard-praise-midfielders-zero-hero-week.html) England international at the club.

However, according to a report from [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/everton-transfer-latest/), as cited by [Toffee TV](https://twitter.com/ToffeeTVEFC) on Twitter, the Blues are keen on taking Lingard on a loan-to-buy deal.

The report claims that the [32-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jesse-lingard/nationalmannschaft/spieler/141660/verein_id/3299) ace is on the ‘target list’ at Goodison Park as Rafa Benitez is a ‘big admirer’.

So far this season Lingard has [scored twice and registered one assist](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jesse-lingard/leistungsdaten/spieler/141660) in seven fleeting outings across all competitions.

### READ EVERTON VERDICT

Signing a goalscoring midfielder would bolster Everton’s squad no end – particularly in the wake of Abdoulaye Doucoure’s [injury setback](https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/abdoulaye-doucoure-sidelined-with-broken-foot-as-injury-problems-pile-up-for-everton-n7nsh3hws).

Were Lingard to make anything remotely similar to the impact he made in east London last term – scoring [nine goals and adding five assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jesse-lingard/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/141660/plus/0/saison/2020/wettbewerb/GB1/verein/379) in 16 appearances – Benitez would relish the addition of the versatile forward.

Valued at £19.8million ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jesse-lingard/marktwertverlauf/spieler/141660)) and amidst a contract impasse, any loan move would see the Blues well-positioned for a permanent capture.
