# Virals: Liverpool Fan Claims He Will Make Everton Switch Over ESL Plans

Liverpool fan ‘Gary’ has slammed his club in no uncertain terms on [talkSPORT](https://twitter.com/talkSPORT/status/1384271257760190464) last night, sensationally claiming he would swap his allegiances to[Everton.](https://readeverton.com/2021/04/01/shearer-everton-ferguson-hardest-man/)

The 40-year Liverpool fan made his feelings known in relation to the[proposed European Super League (ESL)](https://inews.co.uk/sport/football/european-super-league-what-esl-teams-how-it-works-format-962389), in which Liverpool would join a host of Europe’s elite clubs in creating a closed-shop American-style league.

Backed by American [investment bank J. P. Morgan](https://www.independent.co.uk/news/business/european-super-league-jp-morgan-b1833783.html), the system would ensure vastly-expanded and more stable streams of income for Europe’s elite – but it would mean the end of football pyramids across Europe.

The proposal has been fiercely criticised by the likes of FIFA, UEFA and the Premier League, with[Everton releasing a strongly worded statement](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/56813819)this morning condemning the breakaway ‘big six’ clubs in a fiery fashion.

‘Gary’ took aim at Liverpool, claiming the Reds’ ownership is out of touch with fans – and even claimed he would buy an Everton season ticket.

> “Liverpool’s owners are totally not in touch with the fans. But Klopp is,” claimed the fan.

> “I’d be buying a season ticket for Everton if Liverpool joined the Super League\], I’m that sick.”

If there were ever a more necessary circumstance in which to unite the red and blue halves of Merseyside, it would be this.

The ESL has seen near-universal condemnation and transcends the rivalry that exists in Liverpool.

From Everton’s perspective, they should be proud that their club has issued such an upfront statement against their league counterparts – but Liverpool’s fans are as much the victims of their own club’s financial ambitions as anyone else.
