# Virals: Report highlights January transfer targets at Everton

[Everton](https://readeverton.com/2021/10/29/virals-everton-interested-in-shakhtar-donetsk-star-manor-solomon/) have reportedly begun discussions over possible January transfer targets.

Toffees’ boss Rafa Benitez has been left bereft of options in recent weeks following a [host of injuries](https://www.evertonfc.com/teams/injuries-and-suspensions) to key players.

Those problems have subsequently amounted to a [disappointing run of results](https://www.evertonfc.com/results) as the Blues have struggled for consistency in selection.

According to a report from the [Liverpool Echo](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/everton-january-transfer-plan-22060504), as cited by [Everton Blue Army](https://twitter.com/EvertonBlueArmy/status/1456194218813231106) on Twitter, Benitez has started to assess solutions to two problem positions.

The report claims that Everton may look to [offload fringe players](https://www.evertonfc.com/teams/first-team) out of Goodison Park in order to maximise what is possible in January.

Talks are said to be ‘focused around a winger and box-to-box midfielder’ as the Blues feel the [loss of Abdoulaye Doucoure](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11671/12438195/abdoulaye-doucoure-everton-midfielder-out-with-broken-foot-in-another-injury-setback-for-rafael-benitez) in particular.

One option could be Manchester United outcast Donny van de Beek. The 24-year-old Dutchman was [linked with a move to Merseyside](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/van-de-beek-everton-transfer-21491195) in the summer and has remained on the periphery of the squad at Old Trafford.

Signing an additional midfield option is imperative in the winter as Jean-Phillippe Gbamin and Andre Gomes both [struggle to stay fit](https://theathletic.com/news/everton-jean-philippe-gbamin-injury/TZbAwsbDJ2VV/) for a prolonged spell.

However, adding another winger following the [successful arrival](https://inews.co.uk/sport/football/everton-demarai-gray-andros-townsend-rafa-benitez-premier-league-financial-fair-play-1198572) of Andros Townsend and Demarai Gray would be a bizarre move.

When [long-term absentee](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/dominic-calvert-lewin-richarlison-injury-21870152) Dominic Calvert-Lewin returns to the fold Richarlison will also become another wide option, leaving the Blues well-stocked in the wing department.
