# Virals: Report Names Likely Candidates for Everton Job

[Everton](https://readeverton.com/2021/06/01/virals-everton-offered-nuno-espirito-santo-as-ancelotti-move-done/) fans face a tumultuous summer in the short-term [following confirmation](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/57319559) that Carlo Ancelotti has departed the club to return to Real Madrid.

In the immediate aftermath of the fast-moving situation, reports confirmed that Everton officials have wasted no time in drawing up a shortlist of suitable managerial candidates to fill the void at Goodison Park.

Indeed, [one report from The Athletic](https://theathletic.com/?p=2626787&article_source=search&search_query=everton) proved to be a source of contentious debate. The report name-dropped a number of candidates being considered by the Everton hierarchy, many of whom boast experience managing in the Premier League.

Not one but two referenced candidates have strong links to Everton’s arch-rivals Liverpool; the Reds’ club legend Steven Gerrard, who disrupted Celtic’s Scottish monopoly with his Premiership-winning Rangers side, is one potential candidate.

Elsewhere, ex-Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is said to be a shock name in the frame for the vacant Everton job, whilst West Ham boss David Moyes is also highlighted as another option.

Although a move for Moyes is [believed to be unlikely](https://www.hammers.news/news/insiders-play-down-fears-west-ham-could-lose-david-moyes-to-everton-as-carlo-ancelotti-departs-for-real-madrid/)as he nears a fresh deal at the London Stadium, a move to bring the Scottish tactician back to Goodison would represent a second chance for the manager who departed in 2013 in favour of a Manchester United switch.

Other options in Roberto Martinez, Erik ten Hag and Paulo Fonseca ‘are all considered to be unlikely so far’ according to the report.
