# Virals: Thread Highlights Everton Latest on Benitez Pursuit

Everton fan page and podcast [The Toffee Blues (@EvertonNewsFeed)](https://twitter.com/EvertonNewsFeed/status/1408362696660197376)has created an informative thread regarding Everton’s pursuit of Rafa Benitez.

Everton are widely reported to be closing in on the former Liverpool boss as the Toffees’ new tactician, with [The Independent reporting](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/everton-rafael-benitez-liverpool-usmanov-moshiri-b1872649.html) that he could be appointed next week.

Sharing updates from the report, the thread broke down several key aspects in the report.

The account chose to focus on three key aspects; firstly, the thread detailed how oligarch and club sponsor Alisher Usmanov sought advice from Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich over Benitez.

Benitez, who managed Chelsea in 2012, was likely the subject of a character reference from the long-affiliated Chelsea owner.

Benitez is also reported to be ‘excited’ about the prospect of returning to English management with a club he feels has ‘so much potential’.

Given his past with Liverpool and recent fan protestations against his appointment, he also understands the pressure he will face and knows that there will be ‘little margin for error’.

Lastly, the thread included quotes from a source close to the club that indicated an acute awareness of the controversy surrounding a possible deal.

As quoted from [The Independent,](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/everton-rafael-benitez-liverpool-usmanov-moshiri-b1872649.html) the source claimed:

> “This is the greatest gamble in the history of Merseyside football”.

> “It’ll either be a shambles or a huge success. There’s no middle ground.”

The latest suggestions indicate a deal is fast-accelerating and Evertonians may have to get used to a reality in which an ex-Reds manager oversees the Toffees quickly.

With a timeframe offered, an appointment feels increasingly tangible.
