# Virals: Tweet confirms Dominic Calvert-Lewin has scored despite broken toe

A Tweet has revealed an unusual circumstance surrounding[Everton](https://readeverton.com/2021/08/28/virals-andros-townsend-comments-on-everton-deal-for-demarai-gray/) striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who has scored three goals in as many games this season.

As revealed by Mike McGrath of the Telegraph on Twitter, the Everton and England striker has been playing with a broken big toe since the start of the season and is a doubt for next week’s World Cup Qualifiers.

However, carrying such a notable injury has not stopped the striker from continuing his free-scoring form. He scored a header against Southampton on opening day, following up with confident penalty conversions against Leeds and Brighton in successive games.

Although he is unlikely to feature for England as a result, his injury has not proven to be debilitating.

Gareth Southgate named Calvert-Lewin in his squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Hungary, Andorra and Poland ahead of the international break in the country’s first step towards Qatar 2022.

As[noted by McGrath,](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2021/08/28/gareth-southgate-steps-take-control-mason-greenwoods-england/) he is likely to stay at Everton’s training base at Finch Farm to recover fully from the toe injury, with a view to focusing his fitness towards his club at the expense of his country.

Calvert-Lewin was part of the England squad that reached the European Championship finals in July, coming on as a substitute in the victories over Croatia and Ukraine.

He was also a part of the matchday squad for the final defeat to Italy, but did not feature in the final.

Whether Calvert-Lewin will be fit or not after the break between league games is a serious question, though any absence is likely to be a sensible one.

His performances have been impressive, but further aggravation of such a considerable injury could have long-run implications.
