# Whelan slams Kean and encourages Everton to invest in a new forward

Noel Whelan has slammed Moise Kean, claiming that he “absolutely” won’t get 25 goals a season for Everton.

The former Coventry striker has called on the Toffees to heavily invest on a top class front-man as they’re currently missing an ingredient in their side.

Kean has struggled for minutes this season, but when he has played he has impressed in his overall performance, save for his inability to score.

In 11 appearances across all competitions for the Toffees, the 19-year old Italian has yet to get off the mark for his new club, who he signed for in a big money deal from Juventus in the summer.

[Speaking exclusively to Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/exclusive-whelan-blasts-everton-international-in-60million-transfer-claim/), Whelan revealed how Everton should just bite the bullet and further invest an additional £60million plus in order to solve their striker problem. Whelan said:

> None of them have really produced yet and they’re still looking for that natural goalscorer. I don’t think any three of those players are. Someone’s got to get you 25.
>
> Is Richarlison going to do it? No. Is Calvert-Lewin going to do it? No. Is Kean going to do it? Absolutely not. That is the missing ingredient for Everton, a natural goalscorer, someone that’s going to get you 20, 25 goals in a Premier League season.
>
> That will be the difference between them finishing 10th and 6th. You can’t just build a side and miss out a key ingredient. It’s like cooking isn’t it, miss out a key ingredient, it just doesn’t work. They’ve gone out and got Kean who I don’t think is going to get you 20 goals, he’s not the striker Everton need.
>
> Bar them spending £60-70million, if they did then that would be the difference and probably would get them near top-six but at the minute I just don’t see any of them three being the answer.

### Read Everton Verdict

I think that Whelan’s statement is very sweeping and maybe a little baseless considering how little we have seen of Kean so far, and how quick the call has been made.

Even for experienced foreign players, it can take some time to adapt to the rigours and pace of the Premier League. Kean is just 19-years old, he has played less than 50 league games in his career, and he has just moved to an entirely different league that is also a step up in quality.

To write him off now seems premature. Even at the end of the season it would be too quick to label Kean incapable of getting Everton 20+ goals a season, but to do it after just three months is ridiculously too quick.

Everyone needs to let Kean have time to bed himself in and express himself, and then if it hasn’t worked, fair enough, but it isn’t logical or fair to write off his ability just yet.
