# Wigan fans issue hands off after Everton interest in Gelhardt

Everton are likely to face competition to sign talented Wigan forward Joe Gelhardt if they decide to pursue the player further in January.

We [covered the news yesterday](https://readeverton.com/2019/09/03/everton-rival-liverpool-for-wigan-starlet-gelhardt-a-good-signing/) that the Toffees were one of several clubs interested in the 17-year old striker, who has a stellar reputation at the DW Stadium.

The young Latic has featured for Paul Cook’s side in the Championship this season, and the second flight club will be desperate to hold onto their prized asset, with several Premier League clubs lurking.

Several Wigan fans certainly don’t want to see their club hand over Gelhardt willingly. Responding to a post from Read Liverpool on Twitter, a number of Tics fans voiced their disapproval of outside interest in their promising starlet.
