# Yannick Bolasie appears to confirm his Everton career is over

[Yannick Bolasie](https://readeverton.com/2021/01/28/yannick-bolasie-set-to-sign-for-middlesbrough/) has all but confirmed his permanent departure from Everton following a heartfelt message on Instagram to the club and their fans.

The 31-year-old [sealed a loan move](https://www.hartlepoolmail.co.uk/sport/football/middlesbrough-fc/transfer-news-neil-warnocks-yannick-bolasie-message-middlesbrough-fans-everton-man-signs-time-norwich-city-trip-3115925) to Middlesbrough yesterday as he reunited with manager Neil Warnock, [with whom he also worked](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/yannick-bolasie/leistungsdatentrainer/spieler/75471/plus/0/saison/2014/wettbewerb/GB1/verein/873/trainer_id/1527) at Crystal Palace.

Bolasie made the switch to Merseyside from south London for an [initial £25m](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/37083859) in 2016, but Everton now have left behind an expensive disappointment. Evertonians never saw the best of him in a Toffees shirt, with the DR Congo international managing just [two goals in 32 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/yannick-bolasie/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/75471/verein/29) for the Toffees.

Now into the [last six months](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/yannick-bolasie/profil/spieler/75471) of his Everton contract, it looks clear that the club are prepared to cut their losses and let Bolasie leave as a free agent in the summer.

In the meantime, they have offloaded a portion of his wages to ‘Boro in a move which shaves a modicum of funds off the club’s wage bill. However, the most telling evidence to confirm this approach from Everton came in a short statement [posted by Bolasie on Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/p/CKm3iOfjtIv/).

In a post titled ‘My last goodbye’, Bolasie was anything but cryptic in signalling that his Everton career is over – despite technically still being their player. Accompanied with a reflective highlights reel, his caption read:

> All I can say is thank you all for the support I have been given through the good times and the bad, I’ve tried to make the city my own and be around the people, You will always be in my heart

> Thanks to all my teammates who have always had my back & shown me support, special thanks to my guy Duncan Ferguson (Absolute Legend)

> I wish the club all the best and hope we continue to keep pushing ![??](https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/13.0.1/svg/1f44a-1f3ff.svg)

This approach mirrors that of Theo Walcott’s Southampton loan, with the ex-Arsenal prodigy also being in the [final few months](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/54428703) of his Everton deal.

Everton’s approach is reflected in the loan exit of Bolasie, with a reduction in funds by any means seemingly a clear priority for the club.
