# Zielinski set to sign new contract amid Everton interest

Reported Everton target Piotr Zielinski is set to sign a new contract with Napoli, according to reports.

[We covered the story yesterday](https://readeverton.com/2019/12/19/ancelotti-could-look-to-napoli-midfielder-zielinski-in-january/) that had tentatively linked the Poland international to Everton following Carlo Ancelotti’s departure from Naples.

The Italian coach is shortly set to become the Toffees’ new manager, with an announcement expected by Monday at the latest, and reports claim that he is already targeting his former player.

Zielinski was a regular starter during Ancelotti’s time at the San Paolo, and with Everton in need of midfield reinforcements, it was only natural that the club became linked with the 25-year old.

However, [Calciomercato now claim](https://www.calciomercato.com/en/news/napoli-zielinski-set-to-be-offered-new-long-term-contract-64756) that Zielinski is about to sign a new contract to remain with the Partenopei in a bid to stave off interest, with Liverpool also said to be keen on his services.

[Zielinski reportedly has a release clause](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1037289/Jurgen-Klopp-transfer-plans-ruined-Napoli-midfielder-Premier-League) of around £60million, and that is now set to be significantly increased.

### Read Everton Verdict

I’m still not sure how real Everton’s interest in Zielinski is, and how much it is being used by his agent to get his client to sign a new contract in Naples.

It seems very convenient that before Ancelotti has even signed on as Everton boss, one of his former players has emerged as a genuine target for the Toffees. The same could be said for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, but there were murmurs of Everton interest before Ancelotti came to fruition.

If Everton did want Zielinski, then it is a shame to miss out because he isn’t worth what Napoli would want for him. £60million is a lot as it stands, and if his release clause does increase, Everton will definitely have been priced out, because there is no negotiating with Aurelio De Laurentiis.
