The Liverpool Echo are reporting that Everton had free agent Felipe Mattioni Rohde in their Under-21 squad during their 3-1 win over Norwich City.
The 26-year-old Brazilian right-back was a surprise name to see on the team sheet for virtually everyone who saw it last night.
He is currently a free-agent and Everton may be looking to add him to their squad this season. He has had a rather unfortunate career so far, playing in just 44 league games, at 26 years old. He played for Gremio, Espanyol, Mallorca and had a short loan spell at AC Milan in Serie A.
Mattioni joined Espanyol in 2010 and shortly after, he suffered a horrible cruciate knee ligament injury that led to him missing the whole season. After he was able to recover from the severe injury, he suffered the same injury in his other knee, a cruel twist of fate.
He has not been officially signed by Everton, who labelled his current situation as “currently working with the team2 on their official Twitter account. He managed to play 85 minutes in their 3-1 win over Norwich City Under-21’s and it was good for him to get some minutes under his belt with all the injuries he has had in his career.
However, he did concede the penalty that allowed Jamar Loza to fire Norwich into the lead in the game. He then made up for that, winning a penalty of his own. He had a superb run from full-back, into the box, drew a foul and won the penalty, which captain Jonjoe Kenny tucked away.
Would you want him to join Everton as defensive cover?
