After rumours this week of Romelu Lukaku’s apparent £45m price-tag, Roberto Martinez has jokingly claimed that after his goal at the weekend, his price-tag has been upped to £55m.
Lukaku now has 7 goals for the season and shows no signs of stopping, as Aston Villa visit Goodison Park in around a fortnight. His form has brought with it the attention of the top clubs in Europe, such as Juventus and PSG. The club will be looking to keep the Belgian at the club, with the appeal of playing first team football prior to the 2016 Euro Championships in France.
After today, £55m!
The real problem is when the chairman or owner of the club says we need to cash in on two or three players. That is not the situation at Everton.
[Lukaku] wants to break records. He had in his eye Tony Cottee in 1993 being the last player to score 20 goals in a calendar year.
He achieved that and he scored 21 and keeps going. He wants to improve and be the best in the world.
With undoubted potential and ability, everyone will be hoping that Romelu Lukaku will be at Everton after the Euro Championship, but with new agent Mino Raiola it is looking likely he will be looking for his big move in the next few years.
Raiola is known for pushing players out the door, and getting them big moves to top European clubs. With ties in Italy, Juventus could be an appealing destination for the Belgian.
