Ex-Everton star and current coach Duncan Ferguson has been declared bankrupt by the High Court.
Ferguson was sitting on the bench at Everton’s 3-1 loss to Manchester City last night, hours after it emerged that a petition of bankruptcy was brought against him by HM Revenue and Customs. The petition was brought against him on December 1st of last year.
It is unknown why he received the petition, however, it could be due to unpaid tax, which means that the government can seize goods from him, however, the club could also be affected by this.
Ferguson earned £30,000-a-week from his time at Everton where he played in the top flight, however, he has had four convictions for assault, the most recent one being for a headbutt whilst playing for Rangers in 1994. Ferguson is currently in his fourth spell as a first-team coach, working under Spaniard Roberto Martinez.
The striker described the club as his ‘family’ and his ‘life’ in December, most likely after he received the petition.
