Everton boss Roberto Martinez accepts fan unhappiness and said he will ‘give his life’ for the Blues, according to ESPN.
Travelling Evertonians brought a ‘Martinez Out’ banner to Vicarage Road on Saturday, while another stated ‘Baines Is One Of Us’ in light of the left-backs recent comments and Martinez’s reaction to what he said.
Martinez seemingly took the the words of the supporters in his stride:
Since day one, I am extremely proud and honoured to be the manager at Everton and I accept that the fans are not going to be happy with the team losing,’
What is important is that the fans always support the team and they help us to win football games, and that is the only thing that matters.
They know that I will give my life to achieve a winning team, and everything we do is to make them proud so I have no problems with their discontent.
Football is an emotional game. I would not expect anyone to be happy with poor standards, and losing three games in the league, in my eyes, is very, very poor standards.
Everton drew 1-1 with Watford and ended a run of three straight league defeats, but the performance was below-par once again, with some really turgid football on show.
There have been calls from large parts of the Everton fanbase for Martinez to be relieved of his duties, and Saturday’s banners were arguably the biggest message yet from Evertonians to their club.
The Blues currently lie in 14th place, just two points off of Crystal Palace who occupy 16th, with the two sides due to play each other on Wednesday.
